God's assurance

I'm officially horrible at all things blog. I can't seem to ever write new posts even though I think about writing one weekly. Seriously.

I've had something on my heart and I want to share it with you. Last week at church we read from Matthew 6:25-34, which is part of Jesus' sermon on the mount. Essentially we looked at this scripture and talked about God's blessed assurance. He cares for the birds and the flowers so stinking well. Why wouldn't he care for us in the same way? Aren't we much more valuable than those things? God says we are. We put so much emphasis on providing for ourselves, worrying about our every step, and planning each monotonous detail in our days. Isn't the Lord a much better controller of those things than we are? What we lack is true faith in what scripture tells us. We forget that the Lord does care for us, and does want to give and give to us until we can't get anymore. We put our faith in our jobs, our stocks, our investors, our relationships, our friends, our families, and even our dreams. We don't put our faith in the One who is the solid foundation. He longs to bless us and to give to us everything.

That message has really stuck with me this whole week. I've tried to think of God's promises to provide for me when I see a flower. I try to bring to mind that God is in control when my mind is rolling with thoughts on what to do after I graduate or even what to do for dinner. The Lord does not fail us. He instead promises to be all that we need. He promises to give to us every single thing we need.

I encourage you to read that scripture and really focus on what Jesus says in those words. We do nothing for ourselves when we worry about the details. We only deny the Lord a chance to really show us the ways in which He does provide. I hope you find this encouraging and helpful!
