Saturday was just as enjoyable. My friend Austin and I rode bikes downtown to the Azalea Festival, which is a street fair with greasy carnival type food, vendors from all over the place, and crazy street performers with bagpipes, boa constrictors, and tap shoes. Austin and I shared an order of fried pickles and an ice cold lemonade.
After church and lunch on Sunday I came home to do a few homework assignments. Later in the afternoon, my friend Cadence and I decided to bike from my house to the beach and back. We had such a lovely ride and it was so great to soak up the sun. I just got this vintage Raleigh road bike which I am crazy obsessed with, and it makes bike rides so very fun. I told Cadence that I feel like I have magic powers when I ride that thing because road bikes are so much faster and enjoyable to ride around here. I've only ever had a rusty mountain bike from Walmart :) Cadence and I laughed at all the crazies who were in bikinis at the beach, as it was warm but definitely not warm enough to get in that 61 degree water! We biked a grand total of 8.9 miles getting there and back.
That's my new baby. My friends and co-YL leaders, Matt and Kenny, found her at a local sports thrift for $54. They gave it to me as a gift and all I've had to do is get new tires and tubes for $70. The guys at the bike shop told me that I could easily sell her for five or six hundred bucks. I think I'll keep her around though :)
And then the weekend ended and I started off my week with a disaster in the kitchen. I woke up and practically slept walk to start my coffee. I was greeted with puddles of water covering the whole kitchen. There was water pouring out from behind the refrigerator, and I of course was completely clueless as to what to do. Luckily I found a neighbor outside and she and I managed to turn the street water off. That stopped any more flooding that could've happened but also meant that I couldn't wash my face, brush my teeth, or make my coffee. The maintenance guy came and discovered there was a crack in the filter for the ice machine, and it was causing water to gush out all over the place. Thanks to the Shop Vac I found in our garage we got the kitchen almost back to normal. Thank the Lord for people who are knowledgeable on things like fridges and street water cut-off switches. Now let's hope the rest of Monday can run smoothly without any floods or disasters!
